Learning the ukulele is an easy and fun way for families to share and make music together. Kathy and Justin from The Music Makers will teach participants how to tune, strum, and play commonly used chords on this fun, little instrument.

The ukulele has become popular recently as it is being used in today's popular music. It's easy to learn so even those with no prior music experience can be successful. Participants will be playing songs right away, giving them confidence in their music-making abilities.

Some practice outside of class will be necessary. One ukulele per family member will need to be purchased for this class.  One tuner per family is fine or the free Kala Ukulele app for your phone can be used. Please see the ukulele info below.

An adult must also sign up to take this class.  Siblings who want to sign up together without an adult must take one of the classes offered for children only.

Beginner Ukulele 2 - Teens and Adults

The Beginner Ukulele 2 class is for those who have completed Beginner Ukulele 1 or who already know how to use basic chords fluently in songs.  Students will learn strum patterns and the basics of finger picking.  They will learn how to read tabs and play a few simple riffs on the ukulele.  Working on the same orchestrated songs each week will provide repetition and confidence in playing.  We will also teach how to transpose songs and use a capo.

Introduction To Ukulele - Ages 5 to 7 years

These classes are designed to give young children a fun and positive first experience with a musical instrument.  Students will learn how to hold and strum the ukulele and some basic technique. They will learn five chords and twelve songs. Movement, games and the use of visuals and percussion instruments make this class fun and engaging.

We will also incorporate percussion instruments and singing activities to provide group music-making experiences. They will not have to learn to tune the ukulele, we will do that for them in each class.  Purchasing a tuner is optional but recommended if a parent would like to learn how to tune the ukulele.  Children will receive songs to play along with at home. Students will not be ready to take the Beginner Classes until they are 8 years old.  An approved ukulele will need to be purchased for this class.  Please see the ukulele info below.

UKULELE DETAILS

- The ukuleles and tuners that are recommended for our programs, can be purchased on Amazon.  Click the "Shop" button below to find links to our recommendations.  If you use our links, we get a small commission without it costing you extra. This will help support our ukulele programs.

- The brand we recommend is Kala Brand ukuleles.  This brand has proven to have good quality for the price, they sound good, and stay in tune in our classes.  There are lot of cheaply made ukuleles out there that we have found don't work for our classes.

- Of course, you are not required to purchase a Kala Brand ukulele but please let us know before purchasing another brand so we can let you know if it will work for the class.  We don't recommend the inexpensive, off-brand ukuleles sold on Amazon.

A ukulele must be of good enough quality to stay in tune during the class.

-The soprano size and the concert size are most popular and are both fine for older children and adults.

- The smaller soprano size is recommended for ages 5 to 7 and tuners are optional for this age group.

- A ukulele tuner will be needed for all students ages 8 thru adults.  Or a free ukulele tuning app can be downloaded and used on a mobile devise.  You will learn how to use both in the class so your ukulele does not need to be tuned before the 1st class.
